Shooting Script

EXT. Outside College. Day

Dan meets up with his friends and begins to head home from college. Dan seems in more of a rush to get home than his friends do and is a few steps ahead.

Camera pans as they walk past, then stays static behind them as they walk down the road. Right at the end of the road you can see Dan’s house.

-   Cut to

EXT. Outside Dan’s house. Day

Dan’s friends beg him to come out with them

Mike

Come on Dan, everyone’s coming out. You’ll be the only one staying at home.

Dan

Sorry guys, I promised my parents. I can’t let them down, this dinner party mean everything to them.

Mike

Fine, suit yourself. We’ll see you on Monday then?

Dan

Will do buddy, have  good weekend you guys.

Camera over Dan’s shoulder. Dan watches his friends walk away.

Dan opens his from door and enters into the hallway.

-   Cut to

INT. Dan’s House. Evening

Dan’s dumps his bags and promptly enters the kitchen. He finds all his prior preparations for the dinner party have been ruined. Dan slumps in to his seat and begins to panic.

Dan

What the hell happened here! This is ridiculous, there’s no possible way of fixing this. Think Dan…THINK!

Dan opens the fridge and examines the ingredients. He quickly glances at the clock and sighs. He ties up his apron and begins gathering ingredients.

INT. Dan’s Kitchen. Evening

As soon as he finishes the door bell rings. He opens it and let’s his parents in. Dan goes sit down in the living room whilst his parents get their guests sorted out.

INT. Dan’s Living Room. Night

Dan’s parents and their guests come to congratulate Dan for his efforts and excellent cooking but they find him asleep on the sofa.

Dan’s Mum

Thank you very much… Oh he’s fallen asleep, bless.

Dan’s Dad

Well done son, sleep well.

Treatment

After a hard day at Cookery College, Dan needs to rush home to prepare a fine three course meal for his family’s annual dinner party. But as he enters the kitchen things have gone completely wrong, the oven had been turned off, the meat was out of date and someone had removed the food cover from the dessert. Can Dan regain respect and quickly prepare the meal that his parents had been bragging about…

Dan is a seventeen year old boy who has a passion for cooking. After completing secondary school with a handful of respectable grades, he had no other choice in mind than to attend Cookery College. Attended this specialist school would give the Dan the opportunity to fulfil his dream of becoming a respected famous chef. His parents have high expectations of his talent and are always bragging about their son. As much as Dan appreciates their support, too much hype about studies and talent gets on his nerves. To escape the constant embarrassment of his parents he likes to keep a healthy social life by meeting up with his friends and socializing. However, his college requires him to do lots of extra curricular studies including research into different flavours and origins of food. This unfortunately doesn’t give Dan as much free time as he would like but due to his maturity he knows that to excel as a chef in life he will need to concentrate as hard as he can. He isn’t used to recipes not working as they should and continuously creates exceptional dishes for his friends, family and teachers at college.  Although Dan isn’t a self centred person, failure to impress is not an option. This is down to his parent’s distinct persistence of perfection. So when things begin to go wrong in life, Dan immediately struggles to sort things out.

I believe that I am a suitable person to create this drama because I have relatively good knowledge of the main characters background. However, I will still need to research further into information concerning the characters background. This task is slightly different to ones I have completed in the past; this is because it is only going to be one minute long. To make it as interesting as possible for the audience, I am going to use lots of different single camera techniques, including different shot types, angles and movement.

As the college day comes to an end the weekend begins. Dan meets up with his friends and begins walking home. On the way home Dan’s friends urge him to come out that evening to attend there friends 18^th birthday party. Unfortunately, Dan needs to be at home that evening to prepare the meal for his parents annual dinner party. Eventually Dan and his friends spilt in different directions to head home. On Dan’s way he begins to conjure up great concoctions of flavours in his head. The more he thinks the more he becomes more excited to finish preparing the food. When he gets to his front door he rattles around his bag, eventually retrieving the door key from its depths. Once inside he immediately checks the clock. It’s 4 o’clock. This gives him 4 hours to finish preparing the food. But as he enters the kitchen, he is hit with a sudden shock. He realises that the oven has been turned off, the salad has been eaten and someone has removed the food cover that was covering the desert. Dan is fuming, and straight away begins to wonder who could have done this. To his knowledge, only his older sister had been in the house since he began preparing the food so he automatically blames her. But there is no time for finger pointing; he needs to create a whole new meal in time for the dinner party and before his parents return. He fumbles around the fridge, the freezer and all the cupboards. Luckily there are enough ingredients to recreate a similar meal as before. So without hesitation he grabs his apron and begins cooking. As time passes it looks more and more doubtful that the meal will be prepared. Nevertheless, he continues to work hard and eventually finishes with seconds to spare. He retrieves all the food from the oven and lays the table. His parents arrive with all the guests and are overwhelmed with the effort that Dan had put into the meal. However, upon congratulating Dan’s efforts, they find him asleep in the ling room, covered in flour and still wearing his apron.
